A friend came over to help me get it assembled and in the air. Assembly and tuning was very easy. With just a little tuning was able to get a swr. Contest day I made 15 contacts into South America running about 30 Watts. And numerous contacts on the East Coast. Luckily the band opened up that day. For someone looking for a reasonably priced antenna that is easily assembled and tuned.
I recommend this highly. I did develop an issue with noise. I cured this with an ICE 10m bandpass filter. It was very easy to assemble and tune.
Yessterday, it easily survived a constant wind that gusted over 60mph. It puts out a good signal, S-9 reports locally, and it also receives very well. It is up 35 feet on a Rohn adjustable mast. Many years ago when I was in grammar school in the s, I had good luck with the 11 meter Ringo for CB radio. The Ringo was easy to assemble and install and parents liked its no radials design.
It is a good portable antenna for camping or Field Day. I have also had good luck as a hamming adult with the 10 meter Ringo. The antennas with radials, that are about 18 or so feet long for 10 and 11 meters, have done a bit better for me than the no radials Ringo, but the Ringo has always managed to do a respectable job. I find that stick antennas without radials tend to get into less trouble during ice storms. The Ringo, whether it's a 10 meter or a MHz is simply a half wave vertical.
It is what it is, and it works fine. I've had one for years and it works well. I would recommend this to a friend, most definitely. I had no problems with assembly and all my tubing fit together as it should. More than 12 Months. There is a delay before newly submitted reviews are Approved and posted in eHam's reviews. Never did use a Ringo but if I remember right they used to claim 3.
I haven't had a cb hooked up in years but am a retired trucker and I live with in a mile of I so thought I might just rig one up and see if any of my old running buds are still at it. If you call or write Cushcraft they may still have an assy. Good luck. I'll give that a try. I have all of the parts, just wasn't exactly sure how they were assembled. I had helped install several ringos years ago but my mental picture was sort of foggy. This morning I went browsing in cushcrafts web site and find that the 6 meter ringo is assembled exactly like the old CB one and it's sort of like I remember.
Right now and this is subject to change at any moment , I am planning to use all new nuts and bolts, order a new coax connector and maybe replace the old flat aluminum matching bar with the newer round rod sliding assembly. I have already cleaned up the vertical and ring and they look as good as new.
Cushcraft CB Ringo, need info. Spam Report. Red Wave Radio. Board index Citizen-Band.
